Expertise: Risk Management and Mining Safety.
Dr Carl Marx is a risk and management professional with +43 years of experience at all levels of the organization, in operations as well as executive, consulting and support roles. He has in-depth knowledge of the mining and construction risk management processes, including design and implementation of operational and risk management programs.
His experience was gained across the globe in providing risk assessment services to multi-cultural companies by ensuring that systems are aligned with corporate governance requirements, employees are suitably trained, and that management is fully on board to implement the risk management programs. While working as a deputy Director for the Department of Minerals and Energy, he Co-authored the South African Government-issued “Practical guide to Risk assessment in Mining” that formed the basis for the successful introduction of risk assessment in the South African mining industry.
He has a Doctorate in Risk Management and used that knowledge to develop numerous innovative, yet practical, risk management programs and risk prevention training courses, including packages for the University of Queensland (JKTech) and global mining companies.
Some of his notable publications include a risk management chapter in a current student prescribed textbook (Management for Engineers, Technologists and Scientists) as well as two online coursed with Edumine.
He has an advanced knowledge of computer programs and was the technical advisor for the development of several risk applications. He has successfully developed, tested, and implemented HSE risk management solutions for several international companies.
